Childminders registered with a childminder agency (CMA)

CMAs register with Ofsted; and in turn CMAs register and assure the quality of their own providers. In addition to what Ofsted does, CMAs act as one-stop shops for childminder-focused support and services (e.g. helping with registration). There are a number of things that CMAs need to satisfy themselves of as part of the application process for a childminder to register with them, including DBS checks and a range of other checks.

CMAs are not able to operate until they are registered with Ofsted. Only when a CMA is registered with Ofsted will the CMA be able to register childminders.

Childminders who are registered with a childminder agency (CMA) should register individually with the Childcare Grant Payment Service using the CMA's Ofsted certificate number, in order for Childcare Grant to be paid to them.

When a Childminder has registered with the Childcare Grant Payment Service, the CMA certificate number will be checked to verify that the Childminder belongs to the CMA.
